A Little Lesson On The Little Black Dress.

Right, we need to get the story straight before we get into all the modern stuff. The little black dress is nothing new. In fact, it’s origins date aaaaaalll the way back to the 1920’s! Yep that’s right, all those fashionable flapper girls knew what it was and exactly how to wear it! Before this period, black wasn’t really for fashion. At All. It was saved for pretty much just times of mourning. Tad depressing, we know. Who do we have to thank for bringing the black into the light? Well one big thank you certainly has to go to Coco Chanel! Little Black Dress   After placing an advert in Vogue for her latest simple style- the LBD- wearing black out with the mourning period suddenly became acceptable. Hooray! Vogue credited it "a sort of uniform for all women of taste" and we certainly agree. One of our favourite examples from a past of endless little black dress style is, of course, Audrey Hepburn. Who doesn’t want to look that glamorous whilst eating and drinking coffee out of a paper cup. Although we probably won’t be rushing out to pick up the long gloves, an LBD might be reaching the top of the shopping list this party season.   Little Black Dress   The fashion house of Chanel is still turning out amazing little black dresses from season to season. They are also still appearing in the glossy high fashion pages of Vogue. Just look at how timeless Olivia Palermo looks here.

Do You Really Need A Little Black Dress?

You might have been put off by all of this chat about timeless, chic and classy little black dresses. It may sound boring, but we think that there is a style out there for everyone, even the most adventurous of you! Whether your quite timid with your fashion choices and want to see some dresses that give of a chic vibe for easy styling at weddings or if you would rather have club ready LBD’s that could also pass as a formal dresses when the time is right, there will be one for you.

Spotting The Celebrity Little Black Dress.

The little black dress has been making an appearance not just in the history books but on the red carpet too! We loved seeing Emma Watson in a classic cut little black dress. This super flattering style worked well with simple sleeked back hair and a slick of red lips.

This was actually taken at the premier of The Bling Ring. Did everyone go see it? It was like high school meets the fashion world on some sort of mad narcotic AND IT WAS TRUE… well most of it we think.  If you havn’t already seen it check out the trailor. One word- hilarious.      Anyway… back to our celebrity spotting! Going for the simplest of little black dresses, Sandra Bullock was looking ever the gorgeous star at the Hollywood Awards recently. We loved how she teamed relaxed hair and make-up with a structured LBD for a chic twist. She was certainly hitting the headlines wearing this dress, being awarded best style by most of the fashion reviews. Go Sandra! Also stunning at the Hollywood awards was Angela Basset (who most recently has starred in American Horror Story) looked gorgeous in a little black dress with delicately intricate sheer back. Little Black Dress   A more unusual take can be done too though. We loved Lake Bell in Altrazura at the Elle Style Awards. The grey panel with a zip style seam gave a bit of a different twist to the little black dress and we thought her choice of monochrome dainty shoes was bang on trend! Another one to do it differently was Octavia Spencer. The Help star looked super feminine in a black and blue colour combo. We love breaking the rules when it comes to colours and this dress is a perfect example of how a little black dress can be made bold with just a splash of colour. Little Black Dress
