Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 17.31.00   If your anything like the girls at the IKRUSH office, you’ll be absolutely loving nail art right now. You’ll also be absolutely hating how often you chip your nails after creating your artwork... So we have decided to do some research and find out how to prep, apply and maintain your nails for the longest lasting nail art around! 1. Prep. This is the step we’ve all being missing out. We’re a tad lazy but it’s actually pretty simple. No more excuses for us! To start, let your nails soak in warm soapy water. It’s like prepping to exfoliate, you wouldn’t do it dry before your show, right? Next use nail varnish remover to remove any excess oils. Oils are bad news before you paint your nails, we don’t want your varnish slipping right off do we? So no moisturizer. Now gently push back your cuticles, this is optional, we don’t blame you if you want to skip this step. Next clip and shape your nails to your preferred length and style. Don’t forget to gently buff your nails too. 2.Apply. Base coats are a basic must. We found that applying just under your nail and to the very edges strengthens and protects the nail just that little bit more. Look for fast drying base coat to speed up the process. If you can’t find one, you’ll just have to wait. A minimum of 5 minutes but aim for 10 or more. When applying your colour use long strokes from base to tip making sure you get the very edge of under your nail to stop water getting in. Again you’ll need to wait, then apply a second layer if needed or a topcoat. Remember and match your topcoat to your colour. For instance, if your colour is matte you’ll need a matt top coat to give the right effect. 3.Maintain. As soon as your dry remember and moisturise! This will seal your colour and help your hands recover after all that soap and chemicals. Do this daily for gorgeous hands and longer lasting varnish. Our top tip for when smudges appear is to apply nail varnish remover to a cotton bud and gently buff the smudge, thinning the raised area. Then reapply your varnish, Voila! Panic over!
